Darien on ‘Detour’ to “The After School Club”

Darien Dean chats to Richie Tee about his new album Detours’.

Darien Dean

It was a unique experience for me to interview one of nu-souls most formidable forces Darien Dean just minutes before he took to the stage during his recent visit to The Hideaway right here in London. From the moment you meet Darien you engage with his spirited demeanor, sense of humour and openness. What you see is what you get – a guy from humble beginnings who just wants to work hard, learn as much as he can and be the best he can be.

Hailing from Mount Vernon, New York, Darien started performing not as a singer but as a backing dancer. When a chance opportunity presented itself to step up and perform as a backing singer, Darien realised that the light felt different and he liked it. Slowly but surely Darien began to work on improving his vocals and following  a stateside collaboration with fellow independent artist, Angela Johnson spawned the song “All in Me” which led to a Japanese Tour. The song charted as high as number 4 in the DC market on commercial radio in the company of artists such as Usher, Alicia Keys, Sade and more.

Darien  is currently performing  his newly released Detours project right across Europe & Asia. The album is part of a 3 CD Trilogy entitled “Notes From The Journey”. This latest collection of songs features outstanding collaborations with the UK’s very own Prince of Nu-Soul Omar as well as the excellent duet with Tiffany Tzelle, Last Song which was the 2018 Summer Soundtrack and included in every Soul Radio Presenters Tracklist. Don’t miss your chance to see both of these incredible artists perform when they return to the UK in February 2019
