Nicolas Bearde attends ‘The After School Club’
Richie talks exclusively to Internationally renowned vocalist, Nicolas Bearde about his musical journey right back to those early days in the armed forces to his forthcoming show right here in London Town at Pizza Express Live on the 21st August 2019.
It was a real pleasure to spend time talking to one of Jazz’s finest vocal talents – Nicolas Bearde. Nicolas has entertained music lovers for over 30+ years when he first joined as a member of Bobby McFerrin’s a cappella ensemble, “Voicestra”. As Nicolas explains in his own words, this was a great opportunity to learn about the music business, performing in a group as well a carving out his own distinctive solo career. Nicolas is well known for his unique interpretations of jazz standards and really announced himself on the World stage with his own rendition of the Bill Wither’s ballad, ‘Can We Pretend’ which appeared on his 1998 debut album ‘Crossing The Line’ which was originally entitled “Nic Nac’s”
Born and raised in Nashville and singing for as long as he can remember, Nicolas’s love of Jazz and R&B classics can be laid at his mother’s feet. He remembers: “My Mother and her friends used to get together and play cards to keep each other company. I used to be a late night creeper and sneak in to the loungen to watch and listen to them whooping and hollering while listening to Billy Eckstine and Cab Calloway”. One of his mother’s favourite ballads was “Moonlight in Vermont” which Nicolas went on to record on “Crossing the Line”
This wonderful interview with Zero radio’s very own Richie Tee captures Nicolas’s musical journey right up to his debut performance at Pizza Express where Nicolas teams up with the Rob Barron Trio and will feature an enticing collection of originals and standards covering a wide range of material from his discography.
