MJ was born in Orsett hospital way back in the summer of 1974, and has remained a country bumpkin ever since! Having grown up in such a quiet part of the Thurrock countryside, you would have never of guessed all night raves & DJing was his thing - he was such a quiet lad at school too! (and hes got the school reports to prove it).
Throughout the early years MJ would spend many hours listening to the radio... Influential stations like laser 558 & radio Caroline... Including the main stream Capital Radio, Radio 1 chart show & Essex Radio! He would always ensure the radio was tuned into Essex Radio, down the youth club, for john leechs soul poll - it wound the mods & skin heads up something rotten as they hated soul music!
One Friday night down the youthclub MJ found himself behind a citronic coffin set & speakers, very retro! One of the leaders organised a disco for the club but forgot about a dj... Within a few minutes MJ ran home got some records and ran back.... The night was huge with a good selection of music, soul, ska & typical 80s pop!
Many years passed and the late teens finally came, mj found himself going to john leechs soul night specials and visiting most clubs between southend & london - as most kids do at that age!
However, it was at leechs soul night special where the love of soul really began!
At a similar time mj was an apprentice at GEC marconi, while the pay wasn’t that great he managed to save enough for his first set of decks... Music wanst a problem as by this time he had shed load records! His mobile DJing took off with a few pubs (the crown laindon hills) and the odd party here and there... Was mainly doing 18ths & 21st birthday parties for friends!
This went on for a few years until he met some PYT at a club in Romford... At this point women replaced DJing for a good few years and ended up getting hitched in 1997.
Nearly 10 years pass by with very little djing, although keeping well tuned in to soul music in its many forms. In 2007 he decided to get back into DJing, purchasing a new dj rig and spending many hours mixing up the now mp3 collection!
Since then he has worked in various clubs & run promotions for 80s soul and soulful house scenes... And is looking forward to ClubZero each and every week here on Zero radio!
