Born:- At home, just for the record, my mum was watching Flipper, that famous TV dolphin programme back in the 1960s (giving my age away here)
My radio & dj career (if you can call it that) began when a family member offered me a 1939 microphone, when I was a tender age of 12 years and I pretended to be Tony Blackburn! realising I didn’t quite sound the same I packed it away in the bottom of my wardrobe in shame and placed an out grown pair of pyjamas on top of it, hoping that I would never try that stunt again and that the microphone would just go away!
Way back when, I was then asked to provide music for a family event, so I went ahead and become entertainments manager (yeh right!) for the evening. Two hi-fi stack systems placed together, one set of Christmas tree lights and a handful of vinyl, stolen from his fathers collection! I was set. The party was a reasonable success, so every one says, but they where very drunk! this then set the seed for big ideas about becoming, erm, er...something in entertainment!
So I stuck to what I knew and set up and ran a successful mobile disco road show around Essex and London for years and years working with local bands, artists & comedians at a number of large venues. My taste for the best music in the world never left my side; as I organised & managed sell out soul nights at a local football club. I was a regular at Lacys at Kings Hotel Ilford, various soul nights around Essex and London, attended Zero 6 on many occasions, The Windmill in East Hanningfield, and a regular at Caister (as much as I can)
Anyway, back to the radio, I decided then to venture into local commercial radio. Still managing and running a mobile disco business, as well as presenting two radio shows per week locally, I was offered cover slots on Ten17 (GMAP Group) and soon after was offered 4 shows per week. Since then I have worked on various local radio stations, involved with management of a full time and RSL (restricted service licence) stations, I offer a training consultancy service to new radio presenters, consultant and coordinate radio production output and have presented every style of show from soul to mainstream, sports show, drivetime, breakfast, specialist & more.
