Born an Essex boy and Soul man, Mr. Messy aka the Messmiester aka Mess (especially around closing time), has been on an epic journey through time and space, searching

for the good groove.

The journey began at the legendary Cock Club at the Orsett Cock and has now reached Soul @ the Ship in Old Leigh. Mr. Messy has witnessed the first Purley All Dayers, the first Caister Weekenders, the legendary Hi Hat and Back to the Tracks sessions, Pete Tong’s beginnings as a Jazz Funk DJ and Gary Dennis first gig.

He has travelled from Canvey to Ilford to Dartford to Brands Hatch to Soho to Coulsdon to Camberley to Camden to Hoxton to Leigh on Sea. All in search of music of quality and distinction.

Along the way, Mark has spread the good word, where ever a Soul DJ has been needed. He began DJ’ing with a one off gig at the salubrious White Hart in Grays and has been resident at the Bunker Bar near Liverpool Street (before it decided to sell cut price Nike).  It was at the Sun Rooms in Southend that Mark formed a DJ partnership with Big Jonny Layton that evolved into a residency at Monty’s, in Leigh on Sea. There they hooked up with Gary Turner of Soul @the Ship fame for a year or so of preaching the funk gospel.
