Presenters

I was born in Walthamstow and grew up in Leyton and Leytonstone, Essex came much later. My parents always had music playing in the household or had the radio on constantly and I was of the generation when Top of the Pops on a Thursday night was a big event. Well, perhaps I didn’t get out much now I think about it….? Anyway, music was a big deal in our home.

The dj who was resident at the inn place, papillon, busbys on a sunday brighton belle ,sheffield arms hillys, and the escape not forgetting caister soul festivals Started to DJ in 1977 at the Seven Stars in Brighton.

When did it all begin?

well about 40 yrs ago I was bouncing about The Hammersmith Palais in my mums belly.. Thats when I started to dance to funky disco and I have never stopped.... Started Dj-ing when I was still at school.  Got myself decks, amp and mixer and I was off.... parties and weddings.  At 18 I managed to get regular nights in several pubs in South West London.  Radio career began around this time starting with QMBS.  I left London and moved to Essex a few years later and started broadcasting on local hospital radio.

Now for those of you who dont know MJ, heres a few words that may help explain some interesting, but wierd, things! MJ was born during the mid 70s to parents of a hippy nature. Now this was a tough one for MJ growing up amongst people who didnt really appreciate soul music!

Chris Clayton,The youngest and crazyest member of the ZeroRadio family, found his love for the sounds of soul and 80’s funk from an early age, having two older sisters who played these great sounds whilst getting ready to go clubing it’s no wonder that he’s ended up wanting to share the soul sound with the world.

Jon has been one of everyones fave DJs for over 20 years.  He started his professional DJ career as a 17 year old playing cool funk, soul, jazz and disco music with most of the now household names e.g Norman Jay, Gilles Peterson, Pete Tong, Steve Walsh, Chris Hill and Simon Dunmore to name just a few.

The only DJ work ever done was back in the 80s when I was a dodgy Twentys rep in Benidorm so the whole ZeroRadio thing is a bit of a  ....Ive always wanted to do it.... scenario.

Well short and to the point!!   just like me :)
Used to go to the Royalty on Fridays where froggy was the resident (RIP ) that’s where I got the taste for dance , jazz jazzfunk

I was created at a very young age in Tilbury, Essex but then made the very long move to Grays.. When I was not eating you could find me flipping through any music that I could find always searching for that killer track.

My love of soul music started way back in the early 70,s when I was just a young lad. I went to a family wedding. The Dj played soul and funk music all night..Could,nt get me off the dance floor.. I,ve been hooked ever since.

Music has always been a huge part of Phil’s life, with music and dance career spanning four decades that does make him sound rather old! His first entry to the DJ’ing scene was back in 1979, when he decided to go out on the mobile circuit with nice new shiny equipment purchased by his mum and dad!

GT developed a love of everything soulful, jazzy and funky from an early age. His parents loved all things jazz including Mark Murphy, Tubby Hayes, Ella and Miles Davies. Ronnie Scotts was their club of choice and they used to take him to the Top Alex in Southend as a young kid where he used to sit on the steps with a weak shandy listening to Sunday jazz.

Born in East London, escaped to Canvey Island aged 3 and had his first Gold mine experience aged 15. Jazz, Funk & Soul fan ever since.

Born an Essex boy and Soul man, Mr. Messy aka the Messmiester aka Mess (especially around closing time), has been on an epic journey through time and space, searching for the good groove. The journey began at the legendary Cock Club at the Orsett Cock and has now reached Soul @ the Ship in Old Leigh.

Mikeys big, hes ugly, but  Hes been on the radio in Essex for more than ten years, a good part of that spent in Southend. When hes not here hes usually either fishing or entertaining a crowd at one of the top Essex nightclubs (we dont think he ever sleeps). He was born in Islington in 1964 so that makes him 28 (thats what he tells us anyway) he started as a DJ at the age of 15 with the school disco, hes also worked in Germany, Austria, Spain, Sweden, Norway and Paris as well as all over the UK.

Born in black and white and when God was a boy Johny Famous was straight into flares and platform shoes  (they still fit him)

Born in Bromley Kent, moved to Rayleigh in 1959, so despite the Welsh name and ancestry I am a ‘man of kent’ ..or is it a ‘Kentish man’ ? that always confuses me (amongst other things)

Original South Londoner born in Balham in 1970, who cut his musical teeth on the likes of Top of the Pops, Radio Luxembourg and Capital Radio,

The secret love child of Uncle Merv & Ian Reading I spent the first five years of my life living in a spare Bass bin in the back of an old transit van. Puberty came & went pretty quick & with my love of all music developing faster than the growth of my golden locks & it wasn’t long before the nick name ‘Baldie’ had been born.

What more can I write thats not already been said, well maybe the more intimate stuff :) ....Born in the Whittington Hospital, Highgate London and lived in Highbury Hill North London before moving to Essex in the 60’s with his parents and only Brother.

I grew up on Canvey Island, Essex, UK and first discovered real dance music at the legendary Goldmine when 15 years old (19??) on a Monday Night when I believe the young DJ was our own Colin Hudd, though it was a long time ago.

Born:- At home, just for the record, my mum was watching Flipper, that famous TV dolphin programme back in the 1960s (giving my age away here)
