My radio & dj career (if you can call it that) began when a family member offered me a 1939 microphone, when I was a tender age of 12 years and I pretended to be Tony Blackburn! realising I didn’t quite sound the same I packed it away in the bottom of my wardrobe in shame and placed an out grown pair of pyjamas on top of it, hoping that I would never try that stunt again and that the microphone would just go away!
The microphone didnt go away or my love for music! I managed a successful mobile disco road show around Essex and London for many years, working alongside local bands, artists and comedians at a number of large venues as well as organising and managing sell out soul nights at a local football club. I was a regular at Lacy's at Kings Hotel Ilford, various soul nights around Essex and London and a regular at Caister Soul Weekenders in Great Yarmouth. I then decided to venture into local commercial radio.
Still managing and running a mobile disco business, as well as presenting two radio shows per week locally, I was offered cover slots on Ten17 (the then GMAP Group) and soon after was offered four shows per week. Since then ive worked on various local radio stations, and been involved in the management of full time and RSL (restricted service licence) stations.
The Soul Sanctuary with Bully and Axel is a soul music show with a difference, with features such as "Dunk the Funk", "Retro Rewinder" and "Under the Duvet", you are guaranteed something out of the ordinary!
